"The human body is not my subject. It is my language"
Eva
Born in Madrid, Spain, Eva García considers herself a citizen of the world. Having lived in several countries across Europe and Latin America since childhood, she developed an early fascination with people, cultures and the emotions that unite us beyond language.
Today, she lives and works in Ireland, where she creates figurative ceramic sculptures inspired by the beauty, fragility and quiet strength of the human condition. Each piece is modelled entirely by hand, allowing the material and the creative process to shape the final work.
Eva’s artistic journey began at the Castella Conservatory and continued through workshops with internationally recognised sculptors and an artist residency in Rome, experiences that strengthened both her technical skills and artistic voice. Although deeply inspired by classical and Baroque sculpture, her work speaks to contemporary themes, exploring identity, vulnerability and our emotional relationship with the world around us.
Her sculptures have been exhibited in Spain and Ireland. In 2024, she received the Ceramics Ireland Professional Practice Award, recognising the quality of her artistic practice and supporting the continued development of her career.
Above all, Eva believes that sculpture is a quiet conversation between artist and viewer. Rather than simply representing the human body, her work seeks to give form to emotions that words often cannot express, inviting each person to pause, reflect and discover their own story within the clay.
My Artistic Practice
For me, sculpture begins long before I touch the clay. Every piece starts with an emotion, a question or a quiet observation about what it means to be human.
I am fascinated by the human figure, not only for its beauty, but for its extraordinary ability to communicate without words. A gesture, the tension of a hand or the direction of a gaze can reveal an entire story. Through these subtle moments, I explore vulnerability, memory, resilience and the emotions that connect us all.
Although my work is deeply inspired by classical sculpture and the timeless beauty of the Baroque tradition, my intention is not to recreate the past. Instead, I seek to build a bridge between classical craftsmanship and contemporary ideas, creating sculptures that speak to the world we live in today.
Every sculpture is modelled entirely by hand. I embrace the slow rhythm of working with clay, allowing each piece to evolve naturally. The creative process is not simply about solving technical challenges; it is a dialogue between intuition, material and emotion, where every mark left by the hands becomes part of the story.
More than creating an object, I hope to create a moment of stillness. A sculpture that invites the viewer to pause, to look a little longer, and perhaps discover something of themselves reflected within it.
"I believe every sculpture begins with an emotion.
Clay is simply the language I use to give it form"
